Program Meeting - Wednesday, April 15th
This month we will host leadership trainer, motivational coach, and Aikido master, Na Elom Amouh. Elom is looking forward to joining us for an interactive evening in which he plans to share some of the fundamentals of coaching along with some practical and thoughtful ways on how we can come to clarify and realize our own dreams.

Girl's Night Out
April's GNO is a visit to the Pinakothek der Moderne to view the exhibition "Nicholas Nixon, THE BROWN SISTERS: 40 YEARS."
Since 1975, Nicholas Nixon has taken a photo of his wife and her three sisters, once a year, every year. Now over 40 portraits are on display. Can we really see the relationships between the sisters changing in the photographs? Could you make a flip book out of the entire exhibit? These questions will be covered during the interesting visit!

Bavarian-American Friendship Evening at Frühlingsfest– April 28th
The Krätz Family and Johanna Barsy again invite members of the MING organizations as well as those in the Munich international community to the annual Bavarian-American Friendship Day at the Hippodrom tent, Theresienwiese, Frühlingsfest on Tuesday, April 28. AGBC member and MING co-founder Dave Dowdy is organizing the event.
Seat reservations (at no charge) are required. Seating starts at 6 PM and must be occupied by 7 PM or they will be released to other participants. If you are interested in attending, please advise Dave Dowdy (ddd@tripled.de) ASAP but no later than Monday, April 20 so that sufficient seating can be reserved for you. Spaces are filling up fast!
Please remember you must be a member of one of the community clubs to be able to reserve a place.

Program Meeting - Wednesday, March 18th
Dr. Celina Criss will be our guest speaker on the topic of sex and pleasure. How often do we take the time to invite pleasure in and experience it? Spring is a perfect time to attune ourselves to pleasure and passion...  Celina Criss, PhD(c) is a professional sex coach and student of human sexuality. Her dissertation is focused on the value and necessity of sexology as an independent field. A former kindergarten teacher and inclusive learning specialist, Celina brings playfulness and curiosity to her work as a sex educator. She believes that healthy sexual expression is our birthright as human beings and encourages clients to explore their fantasies and desires at their own pace.

Girl's Night Out
March's GNO is a live screening of the play Behind the Beautiful Forevers performed at the National Theater in London. This is being shown as a livescreen broadcast at the Cinema Movie Theater in Nymphenburgerstr.  Set in India, the story (subtitled Life, Death and Hope in a Mumbai Undercity) is based on the book by Katherine Boo, which won the National Book Award for Non-Fiction in 2012. Program Meeting - Wednesday, February 18th
This month we are welcoming  Anne Christine Woehrl who will present an evening of moving photographs entitled "IN / VISIBLE" on women who have survived fire and acid attacks. Ms. Woehrl interviewed 48 women - all of whom are survivors of these types of attacks. It is an amazing project, and the photographs have been taken with the greatest show of respect and dignity for these women. It is a beautiful platform for these survivors to be shown some visibility.

January's GNO is at the Haus der Kunst 'Kasse' which includes a tour of Georg Baselitz' exhibition Back Then, in Between, and Today which displays his life's work up to his present themes. The exhibition costs 12€ and additional 2€ for the tour.

Program Meeting - no meeting this month due to holiday events- We'll meet again in January!

Holiday Party - Friday, December 12th we will once again celebrate our members-only Holiday party. We look forward to enjoying each member's shared dish and gifts donated for the young ladies of IMMA. This is a nice event for our diverse members to relax and socialize with each other in the cheery holiday season.

Girl's Night Out
This month's GNO is a ride on the Christkindl Tram through Munich. Enjoy Glühwein and Lebkuchen during the 25 minute ride - cost is 2 Euros per person. Afterward, members will visit the Medieval Kindlmarkt at Wittelsbacherplatz and perhaps onward to the Kristkindlmarkt in the Residenz.

IMMA Cookie Baking Bash
Members are welcome to come help bake cookies on Saturday, December 20th for this wonderful organization. IMMA is the Initiative für Münchner Mädchen (Initiative for the young women of Munich), AAUPW traditionally supports IMMA in various ways throughout the year.

Toys for Tots Donations @ Amerika Haus
Toy donations can be brought to Amerika Haus at Karolinen Platz between November 27th & December 16th.  The age range for children is 3-17, most being 7-10 years old.

Program Meeting - Wednesday, November 19th
This month we will have 'Storytelling' with Kumar Barua.  Kumar is a wellness professional in Munich and will speak to us about the great gift of story as a way of finding meaning, clarity, and joy in our lives. He has lived in many different countries and cultures and has worked in fields from computer programming to establishing schools in India. His profound love of humanity has culminated in the field of storytelling - he will share how we can use a vast world of stories to give us not only pleasure but guidance as well.

November's GNO is at the Hand's Gallery in Haidhausen where one of our members will be showcasing her beautiful jewelry with dinner/drinks to follow at Cafe Voila. We look forward to this nice event!

Is on Thursday, November 27th!  A wonderful three-course meal with Turkey carving right at the table in a nice restaurant in Munich for our members and families. It will make you feel at home with much American feasting and flair!

We look forward to welcoming Tara McCartney who has founded her own non-governmental organization, United for Hope, which works to develop sustainable villages in rural India.  We will hear how she made the break from the corporate world and what it took to establish this organization.

Girl's Night Out
This month's Girl's Night Out was a special 5K marathon (run or walk) at the 10th Annual Münchner Frauenlauf run through the English Garden.  This run is sponsored by Avon Cosmetics to raise awareness about breast cancer, and this year was on Sunday, October 5th at 9 a.m.  Hats off to our participating ladies!

Mail Your Absentee Ballot for Free at the U.S. Consulate
The Munich Consulate will mail absentee ballots for U.S. citizens at no cost via their diplomatic mail. You can get voting assistance from the Consulate in Munich.

Program Meeting - Wednesday, July 16th
This month our speaker will be Lisa Fuhr.  She will present aspects from her challenging project in Tiflis, Georgia where she interviewed and photographed women and men from various social strata, age groups, ethnic, and religious communities. These experiences demonstrate how the Georgian people have dealt with the impact of new social and political changes.

Annual July 4th Celebration
AAUPW is hosting a 4th of July party for AAUPW members and families. The party will be a potluck and barbecue held on Sunday, July 6th at 2:00pm.

This month's GNO was at the Open Westend event and included a visit to a jewelry store cooperative of one of our AAUPW members - what gorgeous, hand-crafted silver jewelry!  The evening ended with some delicious burgers at nearby Hans im Glück restaurant.

This month we are looking forward to hearing from guest speaker Meagan Todd, who will share with us her journey as a professional opera singer both in the US and in Germany.

January Meeting and Events

The Monthly Dinner will be Wednesday, January 22nd.

This meeting, featuring guest speaker Gwillem Mosedale (MSc, MBA, MA), will be directed towards innovation. Valued, in earlier centuries, as models for technical inventions, birds, reptiles, mammals, fungi, marine life, are staging a comeback as a source of inspiration for technical challenges of our time. Gwillem will train our eye to identify engineering excellence in a very diverse range of life forms, and extrapolate what this means for innovation and business in the 21st century.

The Book Club continues with an evening on Wednesday, January 15th: When Women Were Birds by Terry Tempest Williams.

Monthly Meetings

The AAUPW meets once a month in restaurants around the city. We listen to speakers and enjoy each other's company. This month is of course a Christmas Party for members. We'll meet again on January 22.

What We Walk Past

Our October meeting will focus on the Stolpersteine - the stumble block. You might have seen one around town or several in other cities. It is a small brass square, just slightly raised from the ground so you know the terrain underneath your feet has shifted but not so much you fall over. On the square is someone's name, when they were born and when they died. Which will be in the 1940's because the stolpersteine is placed in front of the homes of people deported and killed by the Nazi regime. The Stolperseine Initiative website notes that while 16 countries have about 42,500 stolperseine, Munich has but a  few on private property. Munich banned the stolperseine in 2004. Our speaker will talk about his experiences as the chair of the Munich Stolperseine Committee on Wednesday, October 23rd in the early evening. Why is the stolperseine banned here and why is it so important that so many have been placed elsewhere in the world?

A Busy Fall

The book club is reading, meeting and eating; the Sichere Wiesn communications support team is celebrating a great year of getting the word out as well as reconfiguring; and the holiday choir is digging the music books out of the back closet. September's general meeting was so filled with the announcements about upcoming events as well as the joy of simply coming back together we never really got to the program. Kein Problem, we're back and we're rolling with plans for a Fall filled with ongoing work with young women and celebrations with the Girl's Night Out just to name a few items on the calendar.

It's September in Munich and you know what that means.... You're right! Time for the AAUPW Monthly Meetings to start a new season!! We gather on the Fourth Wednesday of the month for food and always engaging conversation near Marianplatz. Easy to find us via S-Bahn, U-Bahn, bus, bike, dog sled, or on foot. 6:30 p.m. - September 25th.
