December Events

Program Meeting - no meeting this month due to holiday events- We'll meet again in January!

Holiday Party - Friday, December 12th we will once again celebrate our members-only Holiday party. We look forward to enjoying each member's shared dish and gifts donated for the young ladies of IMMA. This is a nice event for our diverse members to relax and socialize with each other in the cheery holiday season.

Girl's Night Out
This month's GNO is a ride on the Christkindl Tram through Munich. Enjoy Glühwein and Lebkuchen during the 25 minute ride - cost is 2 Euros per person. Afterward, members will visit the Medieval Kindlmarkt at Wittelsbacherplatz and perhaps onward to the Kristkindlmarkt in the Residenz.

IMMA Cookie Baking Bash
Members are welcome to come help bake cookies on Saturday, December 20th for this wonderful organization. IMMA is the Initiative für Münchner Mädchen (Initiative for the young women of Munich), AAUPW traditionally supports IMMA in various ways throughout the year.

Toys for Tots Donations @ Amerika Haus
Toy donations can be brought to Amerika Haus at Karolinen Platz between November 27th & December 16th.  The age range for children is 3-17, most being 7-10 years old.

November Events

Program Meeting - Wednesday, November 19th
This month we will have 'Storytelling' with Kumar Barua.  Kumar is a wellness professional in Munich and will speak to us about the great gift of story as a way of finding meaning, clarity, and joy in our lives. He has lived in many different countries and cultures and has worked in fields from computer programming to establishing schools in India. His profound love of humanity has culminated in the field of storytelling - he will share how we can use a vast world of stories to give us not only pleasure but guidance as well.

Book Club
This month's selection is Fear of Flying by Erica Jong.

Girl's Night Out
November's GNO is at the Hand's Gallery in Haidhausen where one of our members will be showcasing her beautiful jewelry with dinner/drinks to follow at Cafe Voila. We look forward to this nice event!

Thanksgiving Dinner
Is on Thursday, November 27th!  A wonderful three-course meal with Turkey carving right at the table in a nice restaurant in Munich for our members and families. It will make you feel at home with much American feasting and flair!

Program Meeting - Wednesday, October 15th
We look forward to welcoming Tara McCartney who has founded her own non-governmental organization, United for Hope, which works to develop sustainable villages in rural India.  We will hear how she made the break from the corporate world and what it took to establish this organization.

Book Club
This month's selection is The Alchemists: Three Central Bankers and a World on Fire by Neil Irwin.

Girl's Night Out
This month's Girl's Night Out was a special 5K marathon (run or walk) at the 10th Annual Münchner Frauenlauf run through the English Garden.  This run is sponsored by Avon Cosmetics to raise awareness about breast cancer, and this year was on Sunday, October 5th at 9 a.m.  Hats off to our participating ladies!

Mail Your Absentee Ballot for Free at the U.S. Consulate
The Munich Consulate will mail absentee ballots for U.S. citizens at no cost via their diplomatic mail. You can get voting assistance from the Consulate in Munich.

July Events

Program Meeting - Wednesday, July 16th
This month our speaker will be Lisa Fuhr.  She will present aspects from her challenging project in Tiflis, Georgia where she interviewed and photographed women and men from various social strata, age groups, ethnic, and religious communities. These experiences demonstrate how the Georgian people have dealt with the impact of new social and political changes.

Annual July 4th Celebration
AAUPW is hosting a 4th of July party for AAUPW members and families. The party will be a potluck and barbecue held on Sunday, July 6th at 2:00pm.

Book Club
This month's selection is: A Tale For The Time Being by Ruth Ozeki.

Girl's Night Out
This month we plan to visit Tollwood in Olympia Park. Stay tuned for the date and event!

American Citizens Information & Passport Day - Saturday, July 12th
The US Consulate hosts the annual American Citizens Day from 10am - 3pm.  Passport renewal as well as information tables from various groups and clubs will be present.

Program Meeting - Wednesday, June 25th

This month's meeting features a special tour at the Bayerischer Rundfunk (BR) television station in München-Freimann.  Several recording studios as well as a control room full of the latest technology will be highlighted.  A trip to the local biergarten following the tour is planned.

May Events

Program Meeting - Wednesday, May 21st.
Once again, we celebrated the AAUPW May Social at the Office of the Junior Year in Munich.  It was a great opportunity to get to know more of our membership in the private environment of the JYM Rooms and a very pleasant evening.

Girl's Night Out
This month's GNO was at the Open Westend event and included a visit to a jewelry store cooperative of one of our AAUPW members - what gorgeous, hand-crafted silver jewelry!  The evening ended with some delicious burgers at nearby Hans im Glück restaurant.

Book Club
The next six books have been selected, and this month's read is a work of fiction entitled: A Case of Exploding Mangoes by Mohammed Hanif.

Program Meeting - Wednesday, February 26th.

This month we are looking forward to hearing from guest speaker Meagan Todd, who will share with us her journey as a professional opera singer both in the US and in Germany.

January Meeting and Events

The Monthly Dinner will be Wednesday, January 22nd.

This meeting, featuring guest speaker Gwillem Mosedale (MSc, MBA, MA), will be directed towards innovation. Valued, in earlier centuries, as models for technical inventions, birds, reptiles, mammals, fungi, marine life, are staging a comeback as a source of inspiration for technical challenges of our time. Gwillem will train our eye to identify engineering excellence in a very diverse range of life forms, and extrapolate what this means for innovation and business in the 21st century.

The Book Club continues with an evening on Wednesday, January 15th: When Women Were Birds by Terry Tempest Williams.

There are other social and service events planned.
