June Events

Program Meeting - Wednesday, June 17
Our traditional June meeting walking tour will be through the neighborhood of Bogenhausen by Bernd Hieronymus, school director at Luitpold Gymnasium and Munich history expert. Like many other neighborhoods in the Munich area, the village of Bogenhausen is much older than Munich itself. What makes this part of Munich stand out and worth a visit is that after an unprecedented period of property development after 1870, it became Munich's first and foremost "in-place" for the famous and wealthy. The best architects of the time created a state-of-the-art quarter, and most of the buildings survived the 2nd World War. There are other, rarely-visited places to see: a well that could have turned Munich into a spa, the city's celebrity churchyard - which pretends to be a simple country graveyard, the prototype of a gated community from as early as 1900, Germany's first art nouveau building; an etc. After touring Bogenhausen, your understanding of Munich will have widened; dinner follows the tour!
